Guimaraes to be European Capital of Culture in 2012


Following in the footsteps of many great towns and cities, the Portuguese city of Guimaraes will be officially unveiled as the European Capital of Culture, along with the Slovenian city of Maribor, on the 1st January 2012.

The city, that is located towards the north of Portugal, not far from both Braga and Porto, is one of the most important historical regions in the country, with a UNESCO protected world heritage site at its centre.

Steven Gerrard to launch charity in Portugal


England and Liverpool FC player Steven Gerrard has launched a new charity foundation to raise money for children’s charities. The charity has been set up to provide relief to children and young people in need through illness, family issues, disability, financial or educational difficulties.

The foundation is set to help people in Gerrard’s home of Liverpool but will also expand to help the rest of the UK and the rest of the world.
